Introducing the carefully selected personalities for this year’s NEWTON Research & Innovation Week 2024. Throughout the week, attendees will have the opportunity to meet with leading figures from practice and academia who will present on key topics that are shaping our field. You will leave NEWTON Research & Innovation Week with a huge dose of inspiration and energy to change things around you.

NEWTON Week 2024 personalities and speakers

Amy C. Edmondson

Professor of Management, Harvard Business School

Amy C. Edmondson is a professor of leadership and management at Harvard Business School and the world’s foremost expert on psychological safety in organizations.

She is the author of 7 books and more than 60 academic articles published in journals such as Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Journal, and Harvard Business Review.

Her most recent book, Right Kind of Wrong, was the winner of the Financial Times Business Book of the Year award in 2023. In the same year, Amy was also ranked for the second time in their prestigious global “thinkers50″ list.

Marian Jelínek

Mental coach of top athletes and managers

PhDr. Marian Jelínek, Ph.D. is a hockey coach and mental coach who has worked with Czech hockey legend, Jaromír Jágr, for over 10 years. He is currently working with several top athletes such as Karolína Plíšková. 

However, he does not only focus his knowledge on the sports world, but also on the business world. He cooperates with entrepreneurs and managers, whom he mentors or lectures in workshops. He has also added to his portfolio of activities as a professional convenor and lecturer in the Psychology for Managers specialization at NEWTON University.

Čestmír Strakatý

Moderator and podcaster CzechCrunch

Čestmír was born in Tábor and, like the Hussites, soon came to Prague. He has been working in the media for over 10 years. He started at ČT24 as a news editor and later as a news editor at ČT24. He worked as a co-editor on the production of Události, komentáře with the team of Martin Veselovský and Daniela Drtinová. Later he met them again at DVTV, where as a content editor and editor he contributed to the Journalism Award-winning interview with Martin Konvička and hundreds of others. 

He left DVTV to start an interview programme for the Czech News Center. He later got into Reflex, which he grew up with and which shaped him to some extent. Since 2022, he has been working on his own podcast, currently under the CzechCrunch brand.

Milan Formánek

Lecturer and consultant in modern marketing leadership

Milan Formánek worked for Red Bull Media House for 14 years, later he led the creative communication agency Zaraguza. Thanks to his experience on the side of the client, agency and media, he currently teaches and consults on modern marketing leadership.

For 500+ organizations, from non-profits over family businesses to the largest corporations, he creates marketing strategies and connects internal teams with external agencies so that cooperation is effective.

Margareta Křížová

Head of NEWTON Business Accelerator, business mentor and advisor in business strategy and M&A

Business mentor and advisor in the field of business strategy and M&A. She also works with start-ups in the context of negotiating the entry of a financial investor. She is a business mentor in business incubators and accelerators and a judge in entrepreneurial competitions such as T‑Mobile rozjezdy (T‑Mobile pitches), Startup Weekend and Women Startup Competition. She is a member of the Council for Commercialization of Science and Research Results of the Czech University of Agriculture. 

She was an investor in the Czech Television show Den D (D‑Day).Albatros publishing house published her book Z deníku investorky aneb Jak podnikat a nezbláznit se (From the Diary of an Investor or How to Run a Business and Not Go Crazy).

Anna Plechatá Krausová, DPhil

Chancellor of NEWTON University

Anna Plechatá Krausová is a political scientist and sociologist based at NEWTON University and Oxford University. Her research interests include protest, civic participation and democracy, and risk management, multiculturalism and identity politics in Europe and Latin America. 

She enjoys teaching and mentoring students to help them reach their full academic, professional and personal potential. She is currently researching theories of authenticity and leadership and their application to phenomena ranging from protest to marketing.
